New publication: Gene expression profiling of single cells

Due to recent advancements in sample preparation techniques, gene expression analysis in tiny amounts of starting material has at last become feasible. Thus, samples collected by LCM (laser-capture microdissection), FACS (fluorescence-activated cell sorting) or biopsies can be analyzed with unprecedented specificity and sensitivity.

IMGM’s publication “Gene expression profiling of single cells” (published in BIOforum Europe 06/2009) gives an overview on the challenges and benefits of working with small cell numbers and describes how they can be made amenable for gene expression analysis methods such as quantitative real-time PCR and microarrays.
